Exosome Hair Treatment: Questions and Answers

Short, sourced answers to common questions about exosome hair treatment. The evidence is preliminary, no exosome product is FDA approved and hair loss can have medical causes.

Hair loss can have medical causes. See a doctor or dermatologist before starting any treatment.

Does exosome hair treatment work?

Nobody can promise that it will for you. Among the sources we cite, one placebo-controlled trial tested exosomes applied after microneedling: 48 adults, four sessions, 12 weeks. Hair density, count, shaft thickness and the fine-to-thick ratio did not differ from microneedling with saline. The saline group alone improved shaft thickness and that ratio, which is why the microneedling step has to be separated from the product.

Smaller studies without a comparison group report gains of roughly 17 to 25 hairs per square centimetre over 12 weeks, and reviews call the evidence preliminary. The table is on the hair loss page.

How much does exosome hair treatment cost?

We have not published prices. We publish a range only with at least 6 licensed clinics, each with a dated source, and then show the lowest, 25th percentile, median, 75th percentile and highest price. Until then the most useful thing is the quote checklist: what is included, sessions suggested, follow-up billed separately. See the cost page.

What are the side effects?

The FDA lists dryness, redness, itching, peeling, discomfort, bruising, bleeding and crusting among common effects of microneedling, and infection, cold sore reactivation and swollen lymph nodes among less common ones. It adds that some effects can last a long time. The exosome product is a separate question: as of the FDA's 2019 notice, no exosome product was approved. Details on the side effects page.

Exosomes or PRP for hair?

PRP is a concentrate of platelets from your own blood. Exosome products are made from other cells or plants and vary a lot. A 2026 review rates PRP evidence in pattern hair loss as moderate to strong, while exosome evidence is described as preliminary. That is a difference in the amount of evidence, not proof that one works better. Compare them in the side-by-side table.

Exosomes or a hair transplant?

A transplant is surgery that moves hair follicles from a donor area to thinning areas, and it has its own list of possible complications. An exosome product is applied to the scalp and does not move hair. Ask about add-ons separately from the decision about surgery. See what each one involves.

Can exosomes help grey hair?

The sources we cite include no controlled evidence in people. They include a letter about one patient treated with exosomes plus a laser, whose repigmentation partly regressed by 10 months, and an observational study of 10 people. Neither had a comparison group. Details on the grey hair page.

Can I use exosomes after a hair transplant?

Ask your surgeon. A 2026 review calls PRP the most evidence-supported add-on in this setting and says exosome approaches lack robust clinical validation. Evidence specific to transplants is limited for both. See the questions for your surgeon.

Do exosome hair serums work?

One serum, plated HAIR Serum, has a double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 39 adults that ran 6 to 9 months and was funded in part by its technology company. The other two we read about have no study in our sources. Labels rarely let you check the amount or the origin of the exosomes. See the serum guide.

Is there exosome hair treatment near me, and how do I choose a provider?

We do not list clinics by city. Confirm the license of the person who will treat you on your state board's website, prefer a team with dermatology or trichology, ask for the device name and look it up in the FDA's 510(k) database, ask what product is used and what paperwork exists, and get the quote in writing. The full checklist is on the home page.

Is exosome therapy a form of hair restoration?

We make no promise of restoration or growth, and none of the studies we cite measured a hairline. "Hair restoration" in everyday use usually means transplant surgery. See the hair loss page.

How long do results last?

The studies we cite do not answer that. The microneedling studies followed people for 12 weeks to 3 months, and the 39-adult serum study ran 6 to 9 months. Reviews ask for long-term data.

Does it hurt?

The FDA lists discomfort and burning among effects of microneedling. How much depends on the device, the depth and your own sensitivity. Ask the clinic what to expect and what they use for comfort.

Why does this site show no before-and-after photos?

We have no photos of our own and will show none without a clinic's written permission and the patient's consent. A photo cannot show what caused a change, because the microneedling step alone may change how hair looks. See how to judge photos.

Do you recommend clinics?

We have no partner clinic yet. See how we choose clinics for what we will check first.
